  37. This is Shane Monroe reporting on the conference held in Philly regarding the
  38. distribution and pricing of the Amiga computer platform in the United States.

  41.                         ** WHO WAS THERE **

  43. Those attending the conference are listed below.  The number of representatives
  44. present is indicated by parenthesis.
  45.  
  46. Petro Tyschtschenko (1) - Senior Vice President Escom and General
  47.                           Manager of Amiga Technologies.
  48.  
  49. Ed Goff (1) - Attorney, more or less leading the U.S. side of
  50.               Amiga Technologies.  The man we have all grown to
  51.               love over the last several months! ;)
  52.  
  53. Jeff (1; missed his last name) - Amiga Technologies' Engineer and
  54.                                  the only one missing a tie.
  55.  
  56. Better Concepts, Inc. (3) - Hardware/Software dealer
  57.  
  58. Software Hut (3) - Hardware/Software dealer

  60. Lively Computers (2) - Hardware/Software dealer
  61.  
  62. Micropace (1) - Hardware/Software dealer

  70. Centaur Development (2) - Makers of the Opalvision and the most
  71.                           verbose people at the table.

  73. Several companies that were invited didn't make it, according to Mr. Goff.
  74. Most of the presentation was given by Petro with commentary by Ed and Jeff.
  75. Lively & Software Hut were very quiet for the most part, while Alex Amor of CEI
  76. seemed to be the meeting referee to keep us on topic as the day went on.
  77. Micropace had quite a bit to say, as did Metropolitan.  The most input came
  78. from Centaur Development who spoke a great deal of the time.  Better Concepts
  79. Inc (BCI) also had a lot to say and generated a lot of comment (as well as I
  80. think a bit of hate and discontent! ;)

  82.                    ** WHAT WAS SAID (OVERVIEW) **

  84.            ** THE AMIGA 4000T'S FUTURE IN THE U.S. **

  86. A. The first week of September is what was said.
  87. 3. How many will be made?
  88. A. Unknown at this time.  I imagine that has a lot to do with how many the
  89. distributors told Petro they could move.  Petro mentioned the number 20,000.  I
  90. believe that there will be a good deal ready to go by September.  Pre-sales
  91. will have a lot to do with it also, I bet.

  93. A. The distributors seemed to have plans to sell them to any dealer who wanted
  94. them, so companies like BCI, Software Hut, etc. should be carrying them.

  96.                     ** Interesting Points **
  97.  
  98. Here are some very interesting tidbits I picked up from the conference.  Take a
  99. peek.
  100.  
  101. 1. Alex Amor told us that NewTek is no longer going to be making the Video
  102. Toaster for the Amiga once the current 140 or so are sold. This is due to lack
  103. of certain parts (you buy that crap?) and Alex said that they are working with
  104. NewTek to reverse this game plan. Until then, if you ever wanted one, you
  105. better get it now.

  107. 2. Centaur Development stated that the Video Processor/Roaster chip is DONE and
  108. ready to go, pending the results of the conference and the outlook for the
  109. future of the Amiga.  ALthough they didn't say it, I believe that it will
  110. indeed ship now that there is a commitment to the A4000T's future.  This should
  111. healthily assume the position of the Video Toaster in U.S. and Europe.

  114.     These are just a small sample I D/L .

  116.     I spoke with an authorized NEWTEK source who refuses to be quoted.
  117.  
  118.   But it appears Centaur Development HAS a better system waiting in the
  119. shadows that will put the toaster and flyer to sleep. My contacts with
  120. Centaur still haven't replied, what I find interesting is this statement
  121. from my  Newtek source is ABOUT Centaur. The Big Question is Where
  122. does that LEAVE LIGHTWAVE ? Only on the PC? or? SGI?
  123.  
  124.   Does anyone have other news? Many of our companies rely solely on
  125. what we have, and edge ourselves with what we are told.
  126.  
  127.  I for one have many plateforms, but not just one will accomplish all
  128. of my needs. Nor will just one tool such as Lightwave, But it sure
  129. does accomplish faster and better at times those needs.
